Last week we successfully had our budget approved for the next three years for Tamworth Borough Council.
All portfolio holder and member ideas were included, which means our budget delivers for all of Tamworth.
We should proud of it.
We have made crucial decisions to improve council services and increase spending in areas such as:
Town centre regeneration
Increased funding for home adaptions for disabled residents
Events to support town economy
Expansion of the StreetScene team to keep our borough and green spaces tidy and cared for
Improving play areas
Damp and mould works on council properties
and much more.
Plus, a new council tax reduction scheme has been introduced, which will increase financial support to those most financially vulnerable within Tamworth communities.
All delivered whilst setting the Council Tax BELOW the maximum allowed, at only 2.95%. c.10p per week.
This is in stark contrast to some of our neighbours, where some are seeing their local council tax increase by as much as 9.99%! We understand that it is our job to respect the tax payer money and do what is right for Tamworth.
We had the usual argument from opposition members in the chamber around cancelling events, such as the Fireworks, to support the vulnerable. We are fully committed to events and the support they provide to local businesses and job creation. Itโs not a one or the other question as far as weโre concerned, as we have proven with this budget - with the Conservatives, you are getting both!
Iโm proud that once again we, your Local Tamworth Conservatives, have set a strong budget; one that continues to prioritise the things that are important to local people and one that balances over three years.
No mean feat in the current climate and with no overall control in the chamber - this has happened due to continued involvement and comms around budget decisions with Councillors throughout the process.
